Pennsylvania dealers have been closed on Sundays for decades. For a Philadelphia lot, that means a full day of weekend browsing ends at a locked gate and an unanswered form.
What the law says
Under 18 Pa.C.S. 7365, buying, selling or otherwise dealing in new or used motor vehicles on Sunday is a summary offense. State Rep. Tim Brennan has proposed ending the ban, according to news coverage. Until a change like that passes, Sunday stays closed.
The Delaware problem
New Jersey bans Sunday sales too. Delaware is not on the list of states that restrict them. A motivated Sunday shopper who can't buy in Philadelphia can simply drive south.
You can't open. You can make sure that shopper already has an appointment with you before they start the car.
How slow most stores are
In a Digital Air Strike mystery shop of more than 1,500 dealerships, more than 18% never responded to an online lead at all. Only 16% answered within 15 minutes, and the average response took more than 24 hours. Read the coverage. A Sunday lead answered on Monday afternoon is already a day old.
What an AI sales agent does with a Sunday lead
Jason replies by text and email in under a minute. He confirms the vehicle, answers questions from the details you give him, asks about a trade-in and books a time on a day you are open. An example, not a real customer:
Hi Renee, this is Jason with Brightline Motors. Yes, the 2022 CR-V EX is available: 33k miles, one owner. We're closed Sundays in Pennsylvania, but I can set up a test drive for Monday at 10 or 4:30. Which is better?
Set Sunday rules that fit the law
The statute is about dealing in vehicles on Sunday. What an automated reply may say on that day is a question for your attorney or your dealer association. Jason follows the rules you set for each day of the week, so you can limit Sunday to answering questions and booking Monday visits, with price and paperwork left for when you are open.
Monday morning, already booked
- Test drives on the calendar, with reminders already sent
- Trade-in details collected, ready for an appraisal
- Price and financing questions flagged for your team, never answered by the AI
- Quiet shoppers on a follow-up schedule
All of it lives in the sales CRM that comes with Jason, so the whole store works from the same list.
